Jayni and Eoin were married at Grangefields in Derbyshire — a Hindu ceremony in a stone barn, photographed exactly as it happened, with nothing posed and nothing arranged.
Grangefields, Derbyshire
Grangefields is a Derbyshire barn of exposed beams, stone and dark metal, with a long glass roof running the length of it. Spacious enough for a ceremony and a reception, and handsome enough not to need much doing to it.
The Arrival
The day opened with the groom’s procession arriving to drums, and a crowd outside the barn that was dancing before anyone had got through the door.
The Hindu Ceremony
The Hindu ceremony was a first for me and it was extraordinary — the colour, the ritual, and a sense of tradition you could feel in the room. Jayni and Eoin had asked for the day to be photographed as it happened, with nothing posed, which suited it perfectly.
Faces in the Crowd
Documentary work is mostly a matter of standing in the right place and staying out of the way.
The Wedding Breakfast
Then the long tables under the glass roof, and speeches that left very few dry eyes.
Into the Night
And then the dancing, which was as good as any I have photographed — led from the front by the two of them and kept going by everybody else.
