Amber and Ben first got in touch in 2018 and booked me for early April 2020. By the time I actually arrived at Brinsop Court it was the end of October 2021, and they had already married quietly in Scotland. This was the day they did it all again, with everybody there.

Getting Ready at Brinsop Court

Brinsop Court is a moated medieval manor a few miles outside Hereford, and you get the whole of it for the day. Amber got ready upstairs while the bridesmaids sorted themselves out in the courtyard below.

II.

A Ceremony in the Courtyard

The weather held, so they married outdoors in the courtyard — one of several places you can have the ceremony at this extraordinary venue. Ben’s reaction to Amber coming down the stairs is one of those moments I love at weddings: a little bit of nerves, and mostly just sheer joy.

III.

Ten Minutes by the Moat

Drinks were spread between the Queen Anne and the living room. The sun was out but it was a crisp autumn day, so everyone stayed near the crackling fires. Just before the guests were called up for the wedding breakfast I took Amber and Ben outside for ten minutes — I try to do this when it costs a couple the least, and it doubles as a breather for the two of them.

IV.

The Medieval Banqueting Hall

Upstairs into the medieval banqueting hall to be announced and seated. The meal was gorgeous, served by the ever-talented A to Zest, and was followed by a set of speeches that required the youngest in the room to cover their ears.

The Knot, and Into the Night

The evening party was held in the Knot, where the dancing carried on late. Casino tables, candlelight, and the old house lit up from the outside long after dark.
